Did you know that American football is played in Germany?
I didn't, and I was totally floored when I learned that there is a full-out semi-professional German Footbal League.
I was absolutely delighted to find all this out, so I reached out to Nick Alfieri, an American who moved to Germany to play football for the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns. Yes, you read that right, they're called the Unicorns. Yes, it's impossible to say that without smiling.
Nick's from Oregon, and he jumped at the chance to continue his football career after his college football career ended. He brought his other passion with him: film-making. In addition to playing for the Unicorns, Nick documents his experiences on his YouTube channel, NALF, and he's even made a documentary about American football in Germany.
Nick filled me in on the German Football League, told me what it's like to play for the Unicorns, and explained why he loves living in a small town in rural Germany.
